

We present a case series that raises the possibility of a dimensional approach to catatonic behavior allowing focus on individual catatonic symptoms in a range of neuropsychiatric conditions. While this description allows for catatonia to be associated with any psychiatric illness and acknowledges subclinical presentations, most clinicians view catatonia as a categorical diagnosis associated with psychotic disorders, mood disorders or secondary to a general medical condition.
